# Upload a source file or archive

`POST /contexts/{slug}/import/upload`

## Authorizations

- `Authorization` (header, string, required) — Bearer authentication header of the form `Bearer <token>`.

## Path Parameters

- `slug` (path, string, required) — Context slug or UUID.

## Query Parameters

- `path` (query, string) — Subdirectory under the source tree

## Headers

- `X-Pinecone-Api-Version` (header, string) — Date-based contract version, echoed back on the same header. Omit for the default (`2026-07`); send `unstable` for the in-development surface. An unrecognized value is rejected with `400 unsupported_api_version`.

## Response

- `200` — Upload accepted; import enqueued (`state: importing`)
- `400` — Missing/unsafe file name, or archives disallowed in preview
- `404` — Not found
- `409` — Context is optimizing, an import is in flight, or the preview file cap was hit (`preview_file_limit`)
- `413` — File exceeds 2 GiB, or the preview byte cap was hit (`preview_byte_limit`)
